In a thrilling NBA showdown on Wednesday, Victor Wembanyama delivered a career-best 52-point performance to propel the San Antonio Spurs to a narrow 112-111 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. The French phenom, who had previously scored 50 points in a game in 2024, was a force on both ends of the floor, leading San Antonio to their sixth win of the season.

A Record-Breaking First Half

Wembanyama's extraordinary night began with a first half for the ages, as he poured in 29 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, blocked five shots, and recorded two steals by halftime. The 22-year-old finished with a staggering stat line of 52 points, 24 rebounds, and eight blocks, helping the Spurs withstand a furious second-half rally from the Mavericks.

"We did mostly the right thing, the most ambitious," Wembanyama told ESPN. "It was just relentless. We wanted it more tonight." When asked about his individual brilliance, he added, "It's very good because I'm trying to show the example."

Teammate Dylan Harper, who contributed 21 points, praised Wembanyama's work ethic. "Just the mentality, the dedication, the discipline he has every day that he comes into the gym with is unmatched," Harper said.

Kyrie Irving led Dallas with 29 points, including five three-pointers, but it wasn't enough to counter Wembanyama's dominance.

Sixers Edge Pistons in Eastern Conference Clash

In a battle between the top two teams in the Eastern Conference, the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Detroit Pistons 112-106, thanks to a combined 56 points from Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid. Brown scored 30 and Embiid added 26 as the Sixers improved to 8-1, while Detroit fell to 6-2.

Philadelphia's balanced attack saw all five starters reach double figures. LeBron James, at 41 years old, posted a double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists, while Tyrese Maxey chipped in 19 points, including three three-pointers.

Brown, who joined the Sixers from the Boston Celtics in the offseason, admitted he is still adjusting to his new surroundings. "I'm still figuring it out," he said. "LeBron has been great. To see what he's doing at his age makes sense for LeBron James, but for nobody else would it make sense."

Duncan Robinson led Detroit with 27 points, and Cade Cunningham added 26.

Knicks Dominate Bulls at MSG

The reigning champion New York Knicks secured their most convincing win of the season, a 135-105 rout of the Chicago Bulls at Madison Square Garden. Jalen Brunson led the way with 33 points, hitting 10-of-17 from the field and draining five three-pointers. O.G. Anunoby scored 18 and Karl-Anthony Towns added 17 as the Knicks improved to 4-4.

New York led by as many as 44 points in the third quarter, putting the game out of reach early.
